March 10, New Delhi – Amidst ongoing tensions in West Asia that are affecting global fuel supplies, the Indian government has instructed oil refineries across the country to increase the production of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas announced on Monday that the additional output will be directed towards meeting domestic household demand and helping to stabilize supplies in the coming months.
The ministry has prioritized domestic LPG supply to households and introduced a 25-day inter-booking period to prevent hoarding or black market activities.
Non-domestic supplies from imported LPG are being prioritized for essential sectors such as hospitals and educational institutions.
For LPG supply to other non-domestic sectors, a committee of three Executive Directors from Oil Marketing Companies has been formed to review requests for LPG supply to restaurants, hotels, or other industries.
