India Extends Budget Session to Ensure 33% Female Representation.webp

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the Parliament session has been extended for three days to allow the implementation of the 2023 law that provides 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, starting in 2029.

Speaking at an election rally in Thiruvalla, Kerala, Mr. Modi said that the government has extended the Budget session and will reconvene for three days – April 16, 17, and 18. The Prime Minister emphasized that the government will ensure that no state, including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, or Telangana, will see a reduction in the number of seats in the Lok Sabha. Mr. Modi also stated that in states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, or others that have successfully controlled population growth, there is misinformation spreading that if the population decreases, their seats will also be reduced.

The Prime Minister explained that the NDA government had passed a law in 2023 to provide 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and legislative assemblies. He urged all political parties to fully support this initiative, with an open mind and without any political calculations, and to become partners in gaining the trust of the country's mothers and sisters.

Asking the opposition parties to take this commitment seriously, Mr. Modi also said that this "right of the country's mothers and sisters" has been pending for 40 years and should not be further delayed. The Prime Minister stated that amendments will be made to the 'Nari Shakti Vandan law' to increase the number of female representatives.
