New Delhi, April 8 External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will embark on a four-day visit to Mauritius and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties.

In the first leg of his trip, Jaishankar will travel to Mauritius to attend the 9th Indian Ocean Conference and review the entire spectrum of bilateral ties.

The external affairs minister will meet the leadership of Mauritius and review the entire spectrum of bilateral ties, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said regarding Jaishankar's visit to the island nation from April 9 to 10.

Jaishankar is also expected to hold discussions with counterparts from other participating nations during the Indian Ocean Conference.

"The visit underscores India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy, the vision MAHASAGAR, and commitment to the Global South," the MEA said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the MAHASAGAR vision – "Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions" – for India's engagement with the Global South during his visit to Mauritius last March.

In the second leg of the visit, Jaishankar will visit the United Arab Emirates from April 11 to 12.

The external affairs minister will meet the leadership of the UAE to review close cooperation and deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, the MEA said.

The situation in West Asia is also expected to be discussed in Jaishankar's meetings in the UAE.
