India: Government Takes Action Against Obscenity on OTT Services.webp

February 25, New Delhi: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has banned five OTT platforms for streaming obscene content. The platforms—MoodXVIP, Koyal Playpro, Digi Movieplex, Feel, and Jugnu—were found to be in violation of laws that penalize obscenity in content.

Following due procedure, internet service providers have been directed to block access to these platforms under the Information Technology Rules 2021 and laws against obscenity.

These measures are aimed at maintaining public decency, safeguarding national interests, and enforcing ethical practices across digital media. The action is in line with Section 69A of the Information Technology Act 2000, which empowers the government to block online content for specified reasons.
