
New Delhi, March 30 Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with his Dutch counterpart, Rob Jetten, on Monday and discussed the situation in West Asia, emphasizing the need for an early restoration of peace and stability in the region.
During the phone call, the two leaders also discussed ways to further strengthen India-Netherlands relations.
"I was pleased to speak with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Rob Jetten, today. We discussed ways to further strengthen India-Netherlands ties," Modi said on X.
The leaders highlighted the potential for cooperation in key areas such as semiconductors, large-scale water projects, green hydrogen, and talent mobility.
"We also discussed the situation in West Asia and emphasized the need for an early restoration of peace and stability in the region," he said.
The Prime Minister has spoken to several world leaders since the West Asia conflict began on February 28. These include leaders from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Iran, France, Israel, and Malaysia.
US President Donald Trump has also spoken with Modi, after which the Prime Minister said they had a "useful exchange of views" on the situation in West Asia.
The conflict began with attacks on Iran by the US and Israel, following which the Persian nation also targeted its neighbors and Israel.
Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route through which 20 per cent of the world's energy is transported. Since the conflict, very few ships are allowed by Iran to cross it.
