India has reiterated that the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan will remain in effect until Islamabad ceases its support for terrorism. India's Permanent Representative to the U.N., P. Harish, stated that Pakistan must uphold the sanctity of human life before raising concerns about the treaty, considering it a global epicenter of terror. He added that India signed the 1960 treaty in good faith, but Pakistan undermined it through wars and terror attacks.
India suspended the agreement following the horrific attack in Pahalgam last year. Harish also said that India's attempts to discuss modifications to the treaty in the face of technological and environmental changes were rejected by Pakistan. Speaking at a U.N. event to mark World Water Day, Harish emphasized India's commitment to expanding access to safe water, highlighting the progress made under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
