February 21, New Delhi – In Sri Lanka, the Indian High Commission organized a Carnatic music festival, the Tyagaraja Aradhana, at Saraswati Hall in Colombo.
The festival is an annual tribute to the Telugu saint-composer Tyagaraja, who achieved Jeeva Samadhi in the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. The evening featured performances of the saint's Pancharatna Kritis by musicians from India and Sri Lanka.
Speaking about the influence of Carnatic music, High Commissioner of India Santosh Jha noted that it has been one of the deepest cultural connections between India and Sri Lanka.
