March 05, New Delhi – In response to media queries about the elections in Nepal, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, said that India welcomes the successful conduct of the polls and the enthusiastic participation of Nepalese citizens.
"We congratulate Prime Minister Sushila Karki, the Government and people of Nepal, as well as various stakeholders, for successfully holding these elections, which took place against the backdrop of exceptional circumstances last year," the spokesperson said.
He added that India has consistently supported peace, progress and stability in Nepal, and, in keeping with this commitment, provided logistical supplies as requested by the Government of Nepal for the elections.
Spokesperson Jaiswal also expressed India's desire to work with the new government to further strengthen the robust multifaceted ties between the two countries and their peoples for mutual benefit.
