India-UK Partnership Focuses on Offshore Wind Development

February 18, New Delhi – India and the United Kingdom have launched the India-UK Offshore Wind Taskforce in New Delhi, marking a new step in their clean energy partnership.

The taskforce was launched at the Atal Akshay Urja Bhawan in the presence of UK Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy, India’s Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron, and senior officials from both countries.

Minister Pralhad Joshi stated that India has over 272 gigawatts of non-fossil fuel-based electricity generation capacity, including 141 gigawatts of solar and 55 gigawatts of wind energy, at the launch of the India-UK Offshore Wind Taskforce.

British Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy congratulated India on its outstanding progress in the clean energy transition.

Minister Pralhad Joshi also posted on X and wrote, "Launched the India-UK Offshore Wind Taskforce today with UK Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy, British High Commissioner to India Lindy Cameron, along with participating delegates.

This Taskforce is truly a Trustforce, built on confidence, credibility, and time-bound execution.

The Deputy Prime Minister appreciated India’s transformative progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and lauded India’s emergence as a global leader in #RenewableEnergy. From achieving over 50% installed power capacity from non-fossil sources ahead of target to scaling solar and wind at record pace, India is executing the energy transition at scale.

We reaffirmed our commitment under Vision 2035 to deepen cooperation in offshore wind, green hydrogen, and resilient clean energy supply chains. With the UK’s experience and India’s scale, this Trustforce will deliver measurable outcomes for energy security and sustainable growth."
