Ahmedabad, February 21 – India will begin their campaign in the 2026 T20 World Cup Super 8s round against South Africa. The match between the two finalists of the 2024 World Cup will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.
India and South Africa are in a tough Group A of the Super 8s, along with two-time champions West Indies and Zimbabwe. All four teams are coming into the contest after being the top teams in their respective groups in the first round.
This will be the 36th time India and South Africa will face each other in the shortest format. India has the advantage in the overall record. In the 35 matches played between them, India has won 21 times, while South Africa has only won 13 games. One match ended in a draw.
India's dominance continues in the T20 World Cup as well. Both teams have historically played seven matches in this multi-national tournament, in which the defending champions have won five matches, while the Proteas have only managed to win two.
South Africa has yet to beat India in a knockout match. Both teams previously played in the 2014 semi-final and the historic 2024 World Cup final, but the two-time champions won in both matches.
India and South Africa recently met in a five-match T20I series in December last year, where the "Men in Blue" defeated the 2024 runners-up 3-1, with one match being washed out due to rain.
