
February 18, New Delhi – The Indian Air Force is currently engaged in aerial firefighting operations in the Northeast, combating wildfires in both the Dzukou Valley in Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
Currently, Mi-17 V5 helicopters are fighting fires near Japfu Peak in the Dzukou Valley, while in Walong, Arunachal Pradesh, 139,800 litres of water have already been dropped to successfully extinguish a major fire.
In a post on X, the Indian Air Force wrote, "Indian Air Force helicopters are battling wildfires on two fronts, conducting relentless aerial firefighting missions in challenging terrain. In Walong, Arunachal Pradesh, a total of 139,800 litres of water has been dropped, successfully extinguishing the blaze. Simultaneously, operations continue over Dzukou Valley in Nagaland with Mi-17 V5 helicopters drawing water from Padumpokhiri Lake (Dimapur) to fight fires near Japfu Peak amid steep slopes, poor visibility, and rarefied air."
