
Chennai, March 24 Customs authorities have foiled an attempt to smuggle ganja from Vietnam at the airport here and arrested a passenger in connection with the incident.
Acting on specific information, the authorities examined the baggage of the Indian national who arrived here from Vietnam via Brunei on March 19.
The officials recovered 10 airtight, transparent, polythene-covered packets kept in the check-in baggage, containing 4.93 kg of green, flowering substance suspected to be ganja, which was hidden among personal belongings, an official release said on Tuesday.
During interrogation, the passenger admitted that he was carrying the contraband for monetary gain. He was subsequently arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act).
Further investigation is ongoing, the release said.
