Indian Navy Receives New Anti-Submarine Craft.webp

Today, the Indian Navy received Malwan, the second Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft, built by Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi. The Ministry of Defence stated that the vessel has been designed and constructed indigenously according to the specifications of the Indian Navy and complies with the classification rules of DNV. Named after the historic coastal town of Malwan, the ship reflects the rich maritime heritage associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and continues the tradition of the former INS Malwan, which served the Navy until 2003.

The 80-meter-long vessel, with a displacement of over one thousand 100 tonnes, is equipped for underwater surveillance and anti-submarine warfare operations in coastal waters. It is also capable of low-intensity maritime operations and mine warfare. The ship is fitted with waterjet propulsion and advanced systems, including torpedoes, anti-submarine rockets, modern radars, and sonar.
