
Mumbai, March 21 – India had a strong showing in the men's and women's quarterfinals of the Indian Open squash championships on Friday, with several Indian players achieving dominant performances to secure semifinal spots.
In the men's quarterfinals, second seed Abhay Singh and fourth seed Veer Chotrani produced impressive performances to reach the semifinals. Singh defeated Malaysia's Ameeshenraj Chandaran 3-0 (11-8, 11-7, 11-8), while Chotrani beat Sanjay Jeeva 3-0 (11-8, 11-7, 11-8).
Jeeva had earlier defeated Egypt's Ibrahim El Kabbani 3-0 (11-8, 11-7, 11-8) in the quarterfinals. Chandaran also advanced by defeating his compatriot, Duncan Lee, in a closely contested match. Singh dominated his match, winning 3-1 (11-8, 7-11, 11-5, 11-7), while Chotrani secured a 3-0 victory over Mohamed Sharaf (11-9, 11-8, 11-2).
In the women's quarterfinals, top seed Anahat Singh and unseeded compatriot Tanvi Khanna both advanced to the semifinals after winning their respective matches. Local favourite Joshna Chinappa, however, was eliminated after losing 1-3 to Egypt's Nadien El Hammamy.
Anahat defeated Malaysia's Sehveetrraa Kumar 3-0 (11-2, 11-6, 11-4), while Tanvi beat Yasshmita Jadishkumar of Malaysia 3-2 (11-8, 8-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-8).
The semifinals will feature Anahat against Tanvi, and Moataz against El Hammamy.
In other matches, Hana Moataz defeated Yasshmita Jadishkumar 3-2 (11-8, 8-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-8) and Ainaa Amani 3-1 (11-6, 11-7, 11-5, 11-8).
