New Delhi, April 4 Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister P K Mishra participated in the 2027 Census exercise on Saturday by self-enumerating through the special portal launched by the Registrar General of India (RGI) for this maiden initiative.

In a post on X, Rai said that this process would further accelerate India's development under the inspiring leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and play a crucial role in effectively delivering government schemes to every citizen of the country.

"Under the guidance of Honourable Home Minister Shri Amit Shah Ji, the Census has for the first time been initiated in a digital format, which is making it simpler and more effective. You can also visit its official portal at se.census.gov.in and perform your own self-enumeration according to your area," Rai said.

He urged people to provide the necessary information when enumerators visit their residence.

Mishra also completed the self-enumeration process for the first phase (the houselisting and housing census) on Saturday.

"We express our sincere gratitude to Shri P K Mishra Ji for his active participation and support in this monumental national exercise. The digital self-enumeration facility makes the process convenient, quick, and accessible to everyone," the RGI said in a post on X.

By completing self-enumeration, residents contribute directly to reliable census data that supports inclusive development and effective governance, it added.

"We strongly urge everyone to self-enumerate through se.census.gov.in and contribute to building a stronger, data-empowered Viksit Bharat," it said.

The 2027 Census is being conducted in two phases, similar to previous Indian censuses: the first stage is known as the houselisting and housing census, and the second stage is the population census.

The government had, on January 22, notified 33 questions that would be put to citizens during "the first phase of the Census – the houselisting and housing census – starting April 1".

Citizens can answer these questions digitally by participating in self-enumeration, introduced for the first time in the Census exercise, on a website created by the RGI for this purpose, during the 15-day period specified by each state and Union Territory.

Citizens will register themselves, answer the questions, and generate IDs that would have to be provided to the enumerators when they visit them for verification.
