New Delhi, March 10 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday praised the Union Cabinet's decisions to improve rail and road connectivity, saying the move will enhance logistics while supporting economic growth, particularly in tribal regions.
Modi also commended the Cabinet's approval of extending the Jal Jeevan Mission up to December 2028 with an enhanced budget of ₹8.7 lakh crore for the rural drinking water supply project.
"Boosting rail connectivity and capacity in eastern India! The Cabinet has approved multi-tracking projects covering 5 districts of West Bengal and Jharkhand. These projects will enhance efficiency, reduce congestion, and strengthen connectivity across these states. They will also improve freight movement, support economic activity, and promote sustainable, low-carbon transport," he said in a post on 'X'.
The Prime Minister stated that the government will boost connectivity and development through next-generation infrastructure.
"The Cabinet has approved the development of a 4-lane corridor on the Badnawar-Petlawad-Thandla-Timarwani section of NH-752D. This project will reduce travel time and improve logistics while supporting economic growth, particularly in tribal regions," he said.
Modi said the Cabinet decision on the Jal Jeevan Mission marks a major step towards ensuring sustainable and reliable tap water supply for rural households across India.
"It shifts the focus from only infrastructure creation to citizen-centric service delivery supported by strong local governance and digital monitoring. This move will strengthen water security, improve health outcomes, and empower rural communities, especially our Nari Shakti," he said.
The Prime Minister said a significant step has been taken for Tamil Nadu's growth and connectivity with the approval of the Union Cabinet to declare Madurai Airport as an international airport.
"This will boost tourism, trade, and economic opportunities, particularly in Southern Tamil Nadu. Madurai, a city celebrated for its timeless culture and spiritual heritage, is set to strengthen its global connect," he said.
