India's Display Market: BenQ Plans Local Production, Growing Classroom Presence.webp

In New Delhi, on March 16, Benq, a display solutions provider based in Taiwan, announced its goal of achieving a 50% increase in its revenue in 2026, driven by a significant growth in its monitor and interactive flat panel business in India and South Asia. Rajeev Singh, the Managing Director for India and South Asia, stated that this growth is fueled by encouraging opportunities from educational institutions, both government and private.

Benq, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary in India in 2026, anticipates sales exceeding 1,000 crore, thanks to the growing demand from educational institutions.

Furthermore, Benq plans to promote "Make in India" by increasing the number of locally manufactured interactive flat panels through its OEM partners. The company will also begin local production of monitors.

Singh stated that Benq is increasing the number of interactive flat panel models manufactured in India. They are also adding a monitor specifically for the "Make in India" product line. Local production of these products will begin next month.

When asked about the quality of locally manufactured products, Singh emphasized that the quality is comparable to that of imported products.

Benq, which already exports to South Asian markets from India, plans to gradually increase its exports and expand into new markets.

Singh added that not only will exports increase, but the company will also be adding more countries to its export market.

Singh stated that the company expects a 50% growth in revenue compared to the previous year. This growth is significant, especially considering the previous year's performance.

Benq has implemented smart classroom projects in almost 4 lakh classrooms across India, including those run by the central government and several state governments.

Singh anticipates that at least 50,000 more classrooms will be added during the year.

This quarter, Benq is implementing several government-awarded projects. One project involves completing almost 7,500 classrooms in Delhi as part of the Delhi Smart Class project.

Benq is also working on projects in Punjab and Assam, completing approximately 4,000 and 2,000 classrooms respectively.

Regarding the monitor business, Singh noted that while the overall market is growing at a rate of only 5-6%, the mid and high-end market, where Benq operates, is growing at 15-20%.

He added that Benq has consistently achieved a growth rate of over 30%, focusing on unique monitor solutions for its market, including specialized monitors for coders and programmers.

Benq has developed monitors based on insights from Indian software professionals. The company launched in the Indian market and then expanded globally after receiving positive feedback.

In the projector business, BenQ is focusing on the home segment, targeting Gen Z customers who prefer not to have traditional TVs.

Singh stated that the overall projector market size is about 1,50,000 projectors, with BenQ holding a 25% market share. However, in the home segment, BenQ has a 50% share.

Singh described BenQ's 25-year journey in India as "smooth," with a gradual increase in business over the last 15-16 years. He added that the brand value is now very strong.

BenQ previously had a presence in mobile handsets, LED TVs, and laptops. In 2007, BenQ exited the mobile handset market and focused on the display solutions market.

BenQ has launched the VS25 wireless conferencing solution for the Indian market.

Pablo T R Yang, Product Marketing Manager at BenQ Taiwan, highlighted the benefits of the VS25, stating that it offers a hardware-based conference room solution designed to simplify connectivity and collaboration. The system allows users to connect their laptops, tablets, or smartphones to a meeting room display with a single click, without installing software, while supporting both BYOD and BYOM environments.
