Jaipur, March 16 Honda Cars India will manufacture its upcoming electric vehicle model, 'O Alpha', at its Tapukara plant in Rajasthan, with an investment of around Rs 1,200 crore, a company statement said on Monday.
A delegation of the company met Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma at his office and unveiled the plan on Saturday. Sharma said the project reflects growing global confidence in Rajasthan's investment policies and its emergence as a hub for advanced automotive manufacturing, the statement said.
The launch of the EV model will also support Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of strengthening domestic manufacturing under the Make in India initiative while promoting cleaner mobility, it said.
The chief minister said the project would boost investment, innovation, and employment opportunities in the state.
Sharma recalled that during his visit to Japan in September 2024 ahead of the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit, he had invited Honda's leadership to expand investments in the state and consider Rajasthan as a base for EV manufacturing.
Company officials said the upcoming "O Alpha" electric SUV will be part of Honda's strategy for both domestic and export markets, with vehicles manufactured at the Tapukara facility catering to Indian consumers as well as overseas markets.
They added that the plant, spread over about 450 acres with an annual production capacity of around 1.8 lakh units, has been retooled for EV manufacturing as part of the company's shift towards electric mobility.
