
The government today assured that there is sufficient food grain stock in the country despite the conflict in West Asia. Addressing the Inter-Ministerial Briefing on Recent Developments in West Asia in New Delhi, Additional Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs, Anupam Mishra, stated that there is no usual price volatility for essential commodities. He said that the production of pulses in the country is higher than in the previous year. Mr. Mishra also said that the government is monitoring the prices and supply of commodities.
Joint Secretary in the Department of Food and Public Distribution, C. Shikha, said that the country has an adequate buffer stock of both wheat and rice. She informed that approximately 602 Lakh Metric Tonnes of food stocks are available in the country. She stated that the domestic availability of edible oil is stable despite global uncertainties. She mentioned that imports of edible oil from major partners have remained consistent.
