March 26, New Delhi – The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas stated on Wednesday that India's fuel supply remains fully secure, dismissing reports of shortages as a coordinated misinformation campaign.
The government said there are no shortages or rationing of petrol, diesel, or Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), with all retail outlets operating normally across the country. It added that isolated instances of panic buying were triggered by misleading content on social media.
India continues to receive crude oil from multiple global suppliers, with refineries operating at over 100 percent capacity. Oil companies have secured supplies for the coming weeks, ensuring no disruption in availability.
The ministry said the country currently has sufficient reserves and stock cover, while LPG production has been increased and additional imports secured to meet demand.
The Press Information Bureau's Fact Check Unit also flagged a viral post claiming that only two days of petrol remain in India as fake. It clarified that no such announcement has been made by the Petroleum Ministry.
It also warned that strict action will be taken against those spreading false information and urged citizens to rely only on official sources.
