March 05, New Delhi – The United Nations has praised India's banking inclusion program as a global model for empowering women and girls.
Sandra Hendriks, Director of Policy at UN Women, stated that India's initiative of providing digital identification and easier access to bank accounts for women has set an example for financial inclusion worldwide.
She also noted that the government's efforts have enabled over two hundred and ninety million women to access banking services.
The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, now in its 12th year, has significantly expanded financial access, with women holding approximately 56% of the accounts opened under the scheme.
