
New Delhi, February 22 Amid criticism from opposition parties, a top official from the Law Commission described the four labour codes as a reform that has the potential to create a more "inclusive and future-ready" labor market in the country.
The official stated that the codes are among the "most consequential and far-reaching" labor reforms undertaken in decades.
For years, India's labor regulations have evolved incrementally, resulting in multiple laws with different definitions, varying thresholds, and divergent compliance obligations.
"The four-code framework seeks to address this complexity by bringing together concepts related to wages, safety standards, and social security, while aligning regulations with a labor market that is no longer confined to traditional employment relationships," Anju Rathi Rana, a member secretary of the Law Commission, told
