Agartala, February 19 Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to inaugurate an official language conference at the Badharghat international fair ground in West Tripura district on Friday, a senior official said.
Over 3,000 representatives from the eastern, north-eastern, and northern regions of the country are expected to participate in the event, she said.
The event aims to encourage dialogue among people from different regions, facilitate the exchange of experiences, and promote the wider dissemination of best practices, she said.
"Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to inaugurate a regional conference of the Official Language in Agartala on Friday. Chief Minister Manik Saha, along with three MPs – Biplab Kumar Deb, Kriti Devi Debbarman, and Rajib Bhattacharjee – will also be present at the conference," said Ansuli Arya, Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs' Official Language Department, at a press conference here on Thursday.
She further stated that a special issue of the journal Rajbhasha Bharati, prepared by the department for this occasion, will be released by the home minister.
"In addition, books such as 'Indian Languages and Official Hindi – Classic Works' and 'Amritvani – Inspiring Sanskrit Verses of Timeless Value' will also be unveiled," she said.
A total of 80 awards will be given for carrying out good work for the implementation of the official language, Arya added, noting that exhibition stalls have been set up to showcase innovations and activities related to the official languages.
Highlighting the vital role that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will play in language development, she stated that the department believes in giving due respect to all languages.
Regarding the ongoing controversy over the script for the Kokborok language in Tripura, Arya said that the state government will decide on the issue.
While Chief Minister Manik Saha is strongly advocating for the Kokborok language to have its own script, the BJP's ally, Tipra Motha Party (TMP), has persistently demanded the use of the Roman script for the language.
Kokborok was the second official language of the northeastern state.
