India's 'One Nation, One Election' Committee Timeline Update.webp

March 18, New Delhi – India’s lower house of parliament approved an extension for the Joint Parliamentary Committee examining the ‘One Nation, One Election’ bills on Wednesday, granting it until the final week of the 2026 Monsoon Session to submit its report.

The motion was moved by PP Chaudhary, who heads the committee, seeking additional time for a detailed review of the Constitution Bill, 2024 and the Union Territories Laws Bill, 2024.

Both bills, introduced in December 2024 and subsequently referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee, aim to pave the way for simultaneous elections across the country. The committee is currently undertaking a clause-by-clause review before finalising its recommendations.
