Union Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy, Shripad Yesso Naik, stated today that India’s total installed power capacity has exceeded 520 gigawatts, with more than half of this coming from non-fossil fuel sources. Naik made this statement while virtually addressing the India Energy Transition Summit 2026, organized by FICCI in New Delhi.

Naik emphasized that the country's solar capacity has more than tripled in recent years, while renewable energy has moved from the periphery to the mainstream. He noted that this progress reflects strong policy clarity, transparent competitive bidding, the expansion of green energy corridors, the development of ultra-mega renewable energy parks, and the promotion of rooftop solar under the PM Surya Ghar initiative.

Naik stated that India's energy transition is not a distant aspiration but an ongoing transformation supported by clear targets and decisive action. He highlighted that the country has set an ambitious target of achieving 500 gigawatts of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, and the country is progressing towards net zero emissions by 2070.

He added that India's energy transition is not only about reducing emissions but also about enhancing competitiveness, generating employment, strengthening energy independence, and building a resilient economy.
