April 09, New Delhi – India has secured the third position globally in installed renewable energy capacity, surpassing Brazil, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency's 2026 statistics.

In the Financial Year 2025–26, India added 55.3 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity, with renewables meeting 51.5% of electricity demand in July 2025.

The total non-fossil fuel capacity now stands at 283.46 GW, including solar, wind, bio, small and large hydro, and nuclear power.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi highlighted India’s record-breaking renewable energy growth in FY 2025–26.

The Minister shared a post on social media X and wrote, "India’s journey towards clean energy is setting new standards.

FY 2025–26 has emerged as a record-breaking year for #RenewableEnergy growth, with the highest-ever annual addition of 55.29 GW from Non-Fossil Fuel Sources, including the highest-ever 44.61 GW from Solar Energy and a record 6.05 GW from Wind Energy.

This historic growth is a major step towards achieving India’s NDC commitments and steadily advancing towards the 500 GW Non-Fossil Fuel capacity target. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India continues to move forward towards energy security, sustainability, and a #ViksitBharat."
