India's Renewable Energy Capacity Surpasses 55 GW.webp

India has added over 55 gigawatts (GW) of non-fossil fuel capacity during the last financial year. Speaking to the media in New Delhi today on the achievements of renewable energy in 2025-26, Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, stated that a total of over 283 gigawatts (GW) of capacity from non-fossil fuel sources has been installed in the country so far. He added that India holds the third position globally in installed renewable energy capacity.

The Minister also highlighted that the country has surpassed the 150 gigawatts of installed solar capacity. Mr. Joshi emphasized that the last financial year alone witnessed the highest annual solar capacity addition of approximately 45 gigawatts, which is nearly double the previous record of around 23 gigawatts in 2024-25. The Minister stated that India achieved the milestone of 50% of its cumulative electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel sources in June last year, five years ahead of the 2030 target.
