
April 5, New Delhi: The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has recorded its highest-ever expenditure of ₹11,810.82 crore in the financial year 2025-26, representing a nearly 14 per cent increase compared to the previous year.
According to the ministry, the increased spending reflects the timely use of funds for various welfare schemes. It highlights the government’s focus on promoting social justice, empowerment, and inclusive development for vulnerable sections of society.
The department also reported its highest-ever expenditure on welfare schemes for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Other Backwards Classes (OBCs) during the year.
The report further noted record spending on programmes aimed at drug demand reduction, as well as initiatives supporting sanitation workers, senior citizens, transgender persons, and people engaged in begging.
Officials said the increased allocation and effective utilization underscore the government's commitment to improving the lives of disadvantaged communities.
