Indore, March 11 Amid disruptions in the supply of cooking gas caused by escalating tensions in West Asia, shopkeepers at Indore's popular 56 Chaat Chowpatty have begun using electric appliances to keep their businesses running.
Vendors say they are determined not to let the LPG shortage affect customers and will consider adopting alternative energy sources, such as using solar-powered appliances, if the situation persists.
Gunjan Sharma, president of the 56 Dukan Chaat Chowpatty Traders Association, told
"Therefore, we have purchased electric appliances and started using them," he said.
He added that shopkeepers should not feel discouraged by the current shortage of cooking gas because alternative fuel options are available.
"If necessary, we will consider using solar-powered cooking equipment. Customers will continue to enjoy the delicious food at our Chaat Chowpatty under all circumstances," Sharma said.
Chappan Dukan is a food and shopping street located in Indore. Known for its active street food scene and variety of shops, it is a notable landmark for residents and visitors alike.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has designated these shops as a "Clean Street Food Hub" due to their compliance with established standards.
District Supply Controller ML Maru said oil marketing companies have suspended the supply of (commercial) LPG cylinders used by hotels, restaurants, and catering businesses so that the common people do not face any difficulty in obtaining domestic cylinders.
He added that the administration has advised hotels, restaurants, and catering businesses to use alternative fuel sources for cooking, including electricity and diesel-powered equipment.
