
Feb 27, New Delhi – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on March 1, 2026.
On March 1, the Prime Minister will inaugurate, dedicate to the Nation, and lay the foundation stone of various development projects worth over ₹2,700 crore in Puducherry. He will also address the gathering.
Thereafter, he will travel to Madurai, where he will inaugurate, dedicate to the Nation, and lay the foundation stone of infrastructure projects worth over ₹4,400 crore. He will also address the gathering. Around 4 PM, the Prime Minister will perform darshan and pooja at the Arulmigu Subramaniyaswamy Temple in Madurai.
PM in Puducherry
The Prime Minister will inaugurate, dedicate to the Nation, and lay the foundation stone of multiple projects aimed at strengthening infrastructure, urban services, industrial development, education, healthcare, and sustainable growth in Puducherry.
Key initiatives to be inaugurated include the launch of e-buses under the PM e-Bus Seva Initiative; the Integrated Command and Control Centre under the Smart City Mission; tenements for Economically Weaker Sections under the CITIIS initiative; and major sewerage and water supply projects of the Government of Puducherry. He will also inaugurate the Composite Engineering Block – Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Block and Ganga Hostel of the National Institute of Technology, Karaikal; the modernization of the Regional Cancer Centre at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research; and new annex buildings, lecture halls, and hostels of Pondicherry University.
The Prime Minister will dedicate the 750-acre Karasur-Sedarapet Industrial Estate to the Nation, which will house a Pharma Park, Textile Park, IT Park, a research and development centre of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, and advanced healthcare facilities of JIPMER.
He will also lay the foundation stone for water supply projects to improve drinking water systems in Puducherry, 41 rural roads under the PMGSY, development of a Heritage Town in Puducherry, mangrove restoration under the MISHTI scheme, projects in water supply and sanitation sectors, and power sector projects under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), among others.
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for projects covering urban roads, drainage networks, public buildings, student hostels, and sports facilities under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme. The Government of India has approved the inclusion of Puducherry under the SASCI scheme, enabling capital asset creation works for infrastructure and public utilities.
PM in Madurai
In Madurai, the Prime Minister will inaugurate, dedicate to the Nation, and lay the foundation stone of infrastructure projects worth over ₹4,400 crore aimed at enhancing connectivity, mobility, and regional economic development.
He will lay the foundation stone for the four-laning of the Marakkanam–Puducherry Section of NH-332A and the Paramakudi–Ramanathapuram Section of NH-87. The Marakkanam–Puducherry project will reduce travel time from one hour to about 30 minutes and improve connectivity to Mamallapuram (Mahabalipuram), Kalpakkam Atomic Power Station, and Auroville, while boosting tourism and economic activity.
The Paramakudi–Ramanathapuram project will reduce travel time from one hour to approximately 35 minutes and provide faster access to Madurai, Rameswaram, and Dhanushkodi. It will also enhance multi-modal connectivity linking major railway stations, airports, and ports in the region, aligned with PM Gati Shakti.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate eight redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme in Tamil Nadu — Morappur, Bommidi, Srivilliputtur, Sholavandan, Manaparai, Pollachi Junction, Karaikkudi Junction, and Thiruvarur Junction — upgraded with modern passenger amenities and improved accessibility.
He will also dedicate the Chennai Beach–Chennai Egmore 4th Line to enhance the operational efficiency of the suburban rail network.
To strengthen broadcasting services in the State, the Prime Minister will inaugurate three new Akashvani FM relay transmitters at Kumbakonam, Yercaud, and Vellore to expand regional coverage and improve access to public broadcasting services.
