Jammu-Akhnoor Project Nears Completion: Government
Deputy Chief Minister says the Jammu-Akhnoor four-lane project on NH-144A is in an advanced stage, with the remaining work targeted for phased completion by mid-2026.
March 30, Srinagar: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary said the Jammu-Akhnoor four-lane project on NH-144A is in an advanced stage, with the remaining work targeted for phased completion by mid-2026.
He was responding to a question raised by legislator Mohan Lal in the Legislative Assembly.
Choudhary said Package II of the project has been completed, while Package I is likely to be finished by March 31, 2026. Package IIIA is expected to be completed by April 30, 2026, and Package IIIB by July 31, 2026.
He said delays in some packages were due to the project alignment passing through densely populated urban areas of Jammu city, leading to traffic congestion, restricted working hours, and frequent interruptions caused by traffic regulation measures and canal diversion works.
He added that slow progress, inadequate resource mobilization, and technical constraints also affected execution.
The deputy chief minister said labor shortages, issues in land acquisition, and the deployment of manpower and machinery impacted the pace of work.
He said unseasonal rainfall also disrupted construction, while delays in compensation disbursement, removal of encroachments, and shifting of utilities contributed to timeline slippages.
