International Women's Day: Actress Sayani Gupta Calls for Improved Women's Safety.webp

Mumbai, March 8 Actress Sayani Gupta has demanded improvements in women's safety. The actress is known for her work in 'Inside Edge', the internationally Emmy-nominated show 'Four More Shots Please', 'Jagga Jasoos', 'Zwigato', and 'Inside Edge'.

On the occasion of International Women's Day, the actress spoke with IANS, stating that while things have improved for women in society, there is still much to be done regarding women's safety.

She told IANS, "Things are changing, yes. But not to the extent that is needed. Women's safety is a major issue. Our streets, homes, and workplaces need to be safe. This will happen when men are raised correctly. The impunity given to perpetrators of violence and abuse is appalling."

Empathy and nurturing have long been considered hallmarks of womanhood. When asked how the nurturing aspect of her personality enhances her as an actress, she said, "Regardless of gender, you need to be deeply empathetic as an actor. And without judgment. And as an artist, you need a certain innate empathy. You need to nurture the stories you want to tell, the characters you want to portray, and the people you are collaborating with. Everything needs nurturing. Does being a woman provide an advantage? Absolutely, it does."

Sayani, who is an alumna of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, made her film debut in 'Second Marriage Dot Com'. She gained wider recognition for her performance in 'Margarita with a Straw', where she played Khanum, a blind activist.

The actress was recently seen in a negative role in the third season of the internationally Emmy-winning show 'Delhi Crime'.
