Bareilly (UP), March 22 A one-month-old baby was found dead inside her home in the cantonment area here, with police confirming that the infant died due to illness, officials said on Sunday.
Station House Officer (SHO) Subhash Yadav said the incident came to light on Saturday when police reached the spot in the Kila area and began an investigation.
The body was sent for post-mortem examination, which confirmed that the infant died due to illness and weakness, the officer said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the child's parents, Shadab and his wife Hina alias Saina, along with other family members, sustain themselves by begging, police said.
The family had been living in a rented accommodation in the area for the past four months, they added.
Police said the couple has four minor children, one son and three daughters. The infant, who was born prematurely around one-and-a-half months ago, was weak since birth.
On Friday morning, the parents allegedly left their children locked inside the house and went out to beg. When they returned at night, they found the infant dead inside, officials said.
The SHO said the family has not levelled any allegations against anyone and further investigation into the matter is underway.
