Investing in Local Governance: Grants Distributed Across India.webp

The government has disbursed over one thousand five hundred crore rupees under the Fifteenth Finance Commission across eight states to strengthen rural local governance. These states are Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Uttarakhand. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj stated that the funds cover regular installments and withheld portions related to various financial years, aimed at further strengthening rural local governance across these states. The untied grants are utilized by Panchayati Raj Institutions for location-specific needs under the twenty-nine subjects enshrined in the Eleventh Schedule of the Constitution, excluding salaries and other establishment costs. The ministry also added that the tied grants can be used for basic services such as sanitation and maintaining open defecation-free status, including the management and treatment of household waste. The ministry further stated that the grants will also be used for supplying drinking water, rainwater harvesting, and water recycling.
