Amaravati, February 17 Andhra Pradesh Minister G Ravi Kumar announced on Tuesday that the state government is providing subsidized power to aquaculture farmers at Rs 1.5 per unit.

Addressing the Assembly, the state energy minister said that 5.2 lakh aquaculture farmers are receiving electricity at the subsidized rate, and that 50,000 additional power connections have been sanctioned.

"Although the power tariff for aquaculture should be Rs 3.85 per unit as per the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC), the coalition government is providing power at just Rs 1.5 per unit, offering a subsidy of Rs 2.35," he said.

Kumar said the subsidy is being provided based on zone and non-zone classifications.

He added that there were no flaws in the identification process and informed the House that the Fisheries Department is identifying and verifying eligible beneficiaries in the designated zones.

Human Resource Development Minister Nara Lokesh told the House that the ‘one class-one teacher’ policy has been extended to 33 per cent of schools to improve learning standards.

The scheme aims to improve education quality by assigning a dedicated teacher to every classroom for its respective grade and subjects.

He said the government has outlined key infrastructure priorities for public schools, including leak-proof buildings, painting, playground courts, benches, toilets, and safe drinking water facilities.

"The government aims to bring all public schools to at least three- to four-star quality standards," he said, adding that Rs 1,000 crore will be spent next year to complete pending works and construct classrooms where required.

Among other measures, Deputy Speaker K Raghurama Krishna Raju adjourned the House until Wednesday.
