February 24, New Delhi: Donald Trump stated that he prefers a diplomatic agreement with Iran to curb its nuclear program, but warned that failure to reach a deal would result in a "very bad day" for the country.
The U.S. President said he continues to balance diplomatic and military options regarding Tehran, reiterating on Monday evening that he would rather strike a deal to curtail Iran’s nuclear ambitions while cautioning about serious consequences if negotiations do not succeed.
Meanwhile, Iran dismissed reports of a potential "interim agreement" with the United States, calling such claims baseless.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei addressed rumors about the format and substance of ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Washington at a press conference on Monday. He said none of the circulating details are confirmed by Iran, particularly those concerning an interim agreement, which he said "has no basis."
