Iran Strikes Trigger Major Global Airport Closures.webp

March 01, New Delhi - Major airports were closed after U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, followed by Iranian missile retaliation across the region, causing one of the most severe disruptions to global aviation in years.

Dubai International Airport, which handles over 1,000 flights a day, sustained damage during an overnight Iranian retaliatory attack on sites across the Arab Gulf states. Abu Dhabi International Airport and Kuwait International Airport were also affected.

Doha, located nearby, sits at the crossroads of east-west air travel, channeling long-haul traffic between Europe and Asia through a tightly scheduled network of connecting flights.

The European Union's aviation regulator recommended on Saturday that its airlines avoid flying in the airspace affected by the ongoing military intervention.

The airspace over Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, and Jordan has been cleared.
