March 01, New Delhi – Iran has appointed Ayatollah Alireza Arafi to its interim leadership council.

The council, which will also include the president and the head of the judiciary, will guide the country until the Assembly of Experts elects a permanent leader. Born in 1959, the 67-year-old Ayatollah Alireza Arafi is a prominent figure in Iran's clerical hierarchy.
