March 03, New Delhi – Israel has announced that its ground troops will "advance and seize additional strategic areas" in Lebanon.
Overnight, the Israeli military deployed additional forces to southern Lebanon to assume what a military spokesperson described on Tuesday as defensive positions, aimed at protecting Israeli civilians and strategic sites from potential attacks by Hezbollah.
Defence Minister Israel Katz stated that he had authorized the military to advance and secure additional positions in Lebanon following rocket fire from Hezbollah at Israel late Sunday, in response to U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran.
Israel's military had previously targeted Hezbollah assets in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, including command centers and weapons storage facilities, and had warned that it would continue its campaign against the Iran-backed group.
Since November 2024, Israeli forces have occupied five positions in southern Lebanon.
