J&K Election Commissioner Focuses on Voter Enrollment.webp

Jammu and Kashmir State Election Commissioner, Shantmanu, held a meeting today with Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), and Panchayat Block Electoral Officers (PBEOs) to review the ongoing revision of the Panchayat Electoral Rolls for 2026. Akashvani Jammu correspondent reports that the revision process began on March 27, 2026, with the release of the draft electoral roll, inviting claims and objections for new enrollments, deletions, or transfers of voters across the Union Territory. The Election Commissioner emphasized the need for field staff to conduct house-to-house outreach to ensure that all eligible voters who turn 18 years by the cutoff date of April 1, 2026, are enrolled in the Panchayat Electoral Roll. The deadline for filing claims and objections has been set for April 29, 2026. Shantmanu instructed the officials to strictly adhere to the timeline for processing claims and objections and to submit daily progress reports to the Commission. He also asked the Block Development Officers to launch awareness campaigns in each Panchayat constituency to widely publicize the roll revision process. The Election Commission will also obtain continuous feedback from the district-appointed Roll Observers to monitor the process and achieve 100 percent enrollment of eligible voters in the Panchayat electoral rolls.
