The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed the Rajya Sabha that a total of 87.91 lakh Ayushman cards have been created in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
Responding to a starred question raised by MP Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav said that the data is updated as of February 28, 2026.
The ministry informed that under the scheme in Jammu and Kashmir, a total of 19.45 lakh claims have been submitted by empanelled hospitals, out of which 16.21 lakh claims have been paid, while 1.29 lakh claims were rejected after scrutiny.
According to the ministry, claims submitted by empanelled hospitals are examined based on clinical documents, investigation reports, and other supporting records in line with prescribed treatment guidelines.
The government stated that the settlement of claims under the scheme is a continuous process handled by respective State Health Agencies as per the guidelines issued by the National Health Authority. The permissible turnaround time for settlement is within 15 days for hospitals within the state and 30 days for portability claims involving hospitals outside the state.
The ministry also clarified that empanelled hospitals cannot deny treatment to eligible beneficiaries. In case of denial, beneficiaries can lodge complaints through the Centralised Grievance Redressal Management System or the 24×7 toll-free helpline 14555. A three-tier grievance redressal system at district, state, and national levels has been established to address such issues.
