JAMMU, March 29: Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Jammu and Kashmir, Satish Sharma reiterated the government's strong commitment to transforming the region's sports ecosystem while addressing the closing ceremony of the J&K Men's Hockey Championship 2026.

The event was attended by Secretary of the Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul, along with other senior officials.

The championship concluded on a high note, with J&K Police clinching the title after a closely fought final against Jammu North. The tournament featured participation from 17 teams across the Union Territory.

While felicitating the players and interacting with the teams, the Minister praised the athletes for their discipline, dedication, and competitive spirit. He highlighted that such competitions play a crucial role in identifying and nurturing grassroots talent.

“Our government is dedicated to developing an inclusive sports ecosystem. The passion and talent witnessed here clearly indicate that Jammu and Kashmir is on the verge of a sports revolution,” Sharma said.

He further noted that the administration is making significant investments in modern sports infrastructure, professional coaching, and providing greater exposure to ensure that young athletes from all regions can compete at national and international levels.

“We aim not just to produce champions but to empower youth through sports by giving them direction, discipline, and opportunities. Sports will continue to be a key pillar of our youth engagement strategy,” he added.

Emphasizing the historical importance of hockey, the Minister said the sport remains an integral part of the nation's identity and holds great promise in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Hockey has always inspired generations, and we are committed to reviving its glory by supporting players and strengthening institutional systems,” he remarked.

Sharma also commended the efforts of the J&K Sports Council and Hockey J&K for successfully organizing the event and ensuring broad participation.

The final match witnessed an impressive display of skill, with J&K Police showcasing better coordination and composure to defeat Jammu North. The Minister later presented trophies, medals, and mementos to the winners and participants.
