The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy informed the Rajya Sabha that more than 25,000 rooftop solar systems have been installed in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

Responding to a starred question raised by MP Sat Paul Sharma, the Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power, Shripad Yesso Naik, said that the scheme, launched in February 2024, is a demand-driven initiative that allows residential consumers with grid-connected electricity connections to install rooftop solar systems by applying through the scheme’s National Portal.

According to the ministry, a total of 97,260 applications have been received from Jammu and Kashmir, out of which 25,160 rooftop solar systems have been installed in the Union Territory as of March 5, 2026.

The ministry further informed that Rs 182.21 crore has been disbursed as Central Financial Assistance (CFA) to beneficiaries in the region.

Providing year-wise details, the minister said that between February 13 and December 31, 2024, a total of 7,097 applications were received, resulting in 560 installations and a subsidy of Rs 2.53 crore. In 2025, applications rose to 76,146, with 17,939 installations and Rs 128.23 crore released. From January 1 to March 5, 2026, another 14,017 applications were received, with 6,661 installations and Rs 51.45 crore disbursed.

The ministry added that the progress of the scheme is being regularly monitored in coordination with DISCOMs to ensure effective implementation and promote rooftop solar adoption.
