Jammu, March 31 Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo said on Tuesday that an amount of Rs 3,340 crore is being utilized to strengthen disaster preparedness across the Union Territory.

Chairing a high-level review meeting to assess the roadmap and ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening disaster management mechanisms across the UT, he called for sustained efforts to build a disaster-resilient J-K through long-term and evidence-based planning.

Emphasizing a proactive and resilient approach, Dulloo directed the concerned departments to effectively plan and utilize funds amounting to Rs 3,340 crore earmarked under various components of disaster management, mitigation, and risk reduction across all districts.

He underscored the need for a focused and structured approach across six key verticals of disaster management, including early warning systems, risk reduction, relief and response, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and capacity-building and training.

Stressing the importance of expert-driven policy formulation, he directed the department to undertake a detailed analysis through the constituted expert committee to develop precise and actionable recommendations tailored for each department.

He emphasized leveraging mitigation funds for glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), landslides, and floods to reduce vulnerabilities and enhance preparedness.
