Jaishankar Briefs Lok Sabha on Iran Situation, Diaspora Assistance.webp

March 09, New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar reiterated India's position on the safety of the Indian diaspora in Iran on Monday.

He stated that the Indian Embassy has facilitated the relocation of several Indian students in Tehran to locations outside the city. An advisory was issued on March 3, along with emergency contact helplines. Similarly, assistance was extended to pilgrims who were in Tehran for their internal travel.

He further stated that Indian diplomats are working hard to assist regular transit passengers in hubs such as Dubai, Doha, and Abu Dhabi. They have facilitated international border crossings for Indian nationals, including from the UAE to Oman, and from Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain to Saudi Arabia. He added that wherever there has been a partial opening of airspace, the government has approved and undertaken commercial flights, including non-scheduled flights, to enable the return of Indian passengers. According to the government's estimate, approximately 67,000 Indian nationals have returned as a result.
