New Delhi, May 10 – External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reiterated India’s measured and responsible stance during a telephonic conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Saturday, amid rising military tensions with Pakistan.
The call comes in the wake of heightened hostilities along the India-Pakistan border, where both nations have reportedly engaged in targeted strikes on each other's military installations.
“Had a conversation with US @SecRubio this morning. India's approach has always been measured and responsible and remains so,” Jaishankar posted on social media following the discussion.
The US State Department, in a statement issued by spokesperson Tammy Bruce, confirmed that Secretary Rubio stressed the urgent need for both countries to explore avenues for de-escalation and to re-establish direct lines of communication to prevent any miscalculations.
“Secretary Rubio proposed US support in facilitating productive discussions to avert future disputes,” Bruce noted.
The exchange underscores Washington’s concern over the escalating situation and its intent to play a mediating role if required, while India continues to emphasize its commitment to restraint and diplomacy.
