Wayanad (Kerala), March 12 Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has urged the central government to clear the outstanding payments for work completed under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Vadra, the Congress MP from the Wayanad parliamentary constituency, has written to Union Minister of Jal Shakti C R Patil, requesting him to release the outstanding payments to contractors who have undertaken work under the project as soon as possible, according to a party statement.

In her letter, she informed the union minister that there are outstanding dues of ₹133.27 crore alone in the Wayanad district.

She stated that due to the non-payment, contractors were not taking up new projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission, and the ongoing work had stalled in many areas.

The Congress MP said that since the central government has extended the Jal Jeevan project until 2028, the funds for completing the sanctioned projects should be released as soon as possible.

The project, launched in 2019, aims to provide safe and adequate drinking water to all households in rural India through tap connections.
