Jammu, March 30 The Special Crime Wing (SCW) of the Crime Branch has filed chargesheets against four accused in three separate cases involving a chit fund fraud, a fake government job racket, and criminal conspiracy in the districts of Jammu and Doda, an official said on Monday.

A chargesheet has been filed in the 13th Finance Commission Court, Jammu, against Pawan Kumar Gupta, who is alleged to have defrauded multiple victims of over Rs 56.89 lakh through an illegal chit fund scheme in 2023, the official said.

He further said that another chargesheet has been filed against Ashish Bhandari for allegedly cheating a complainant of Rs 7.5 lakh on the false promise of a government job in the Forest Department.

The accused fabricated appointment orders and used forged documents, including cheques from his deceased mother, the official said, adding that the chargesheet has been presented before the Additional Sessions Judge (Anti-Corruption Court), Jammu.

Two more accused – Tariq Rasool Sheikh and Shair Mohd – were chargesheeted for impersonation and cheating multiple victims by falsely promising government jobs and fraudulently collecting approximately Rs 10 to 13 lakh in Doda district, officials said.

The chargesheet has been presented before the court of Mobile Traffic Magistrate, Doda, he added.

Senior Superintendent of Police, SCW Jammu, Sanjay Parihar, reiterated the Crime Branch’s commitment to taking strict action against fraudsters and advised the public to remain vigilant against schemes offering unrealistic returns or government jobs in exchange for money.
