Atal Dulloo chaired a meeting on Tuesday with key stakeholders to discuss the adoption and expansion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in governance and the delivery of public services across Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting was attended by Administrative Secretaries, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology Jammu, CEO of the IndiaAI Mission, Special Director General of the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics, and other senior officers.

The discussions focused on exploring AI-based interventions in citizen-centric sectors to improve administrative efficiency, decision-making, and service delivery.

The Chief Secretary said that AI offers immense potential to transform governance and urged departments to identify areas where AI-driven solutions can enhance efficiency and transparency. He emphasized the need for coordination between the UT administration, technical institutions, and the concerned Union ministries for effective implementation.

He also proposed the formation of a high-level steering committee to guide AI initiatives and directed the Department of Information Technology to establish a dedicated mechanism to coordinate such projects.

Highlighting capacity building, he stressed the early establishment of a Centre of Excellence in Emerging Technologies and Data Innovation Labs in skill development institutions. He also suggested introducing basic AI courses in schools and incorporating AI-related skills under Mission YUVA.

During the meeting, Secretary IT Piyush Singla informed that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) worth ₹20 crore for establishing a Centre of Excellence in Emerging Technologies has been prepared jointly with IIT Jammu and submitted to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

On the occasion, the Chief Secretary also launched the inaugural issue of Digital Dhara, a bi-monthly magazine of the IT Department aimed at promoting digital awareness and documenting key developments in IT governance in Jammu and Kashmir.
