Mumbai, March 12 Former Union minister Sharad Pawar on Thursday described the assassination attempt on former Jammu and Kashmir CM Farooq Abdullah as "deeply concerning."
"The gun firing incident at a wedding ceremony attended by senior leader Farooq Abdullah and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary is deeply concerning. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, which is a great relief," Pawar said in a post on X.
"However, such occurrences can pose a serious threat to public safety. It is reassuring to hear that all the dignitaries are safe. Heartfelt wishes for their good health, long life, and continued safety," Pawar said.
Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray said the incident raises questions about the security arrangements.
"The assassination attempt on Dr Farooq Abdullah is not only disturbing but raises questions about the security apparatus of a protectee who comes under Z+ category of the Union Government protection list," Thackeray posted on X.
"Furthermore, the casual way in which the assassin is treated and the videos are leaked out is even further concerning. This must be taken by the union government with utmost seriousness," he said.
Abdullah, the 88-year-old veteran politician and National Conference (NC) president, was targeted at close range on Wednesday night while leaving a marriage pavilion in the Greater Kailash area on the outskirts of Jammu.
